Scouts on FRIDAY

Don't forget that this week we are holding Scouts on FRIDAY night. We're going for a night hike, meeting at 7pm at the Scout Hut. Leaders will provide transport, Scouts will need

• warm clothing
• waterproofs
• gloves
• hat
• torch
• walking boots
• a drink and a bit of food.

If they want a lift back they'll need to bring a clean pair of shoes and trousers.

Scouts without a sensible amount of gear won't be going on the walk.

We will ring parents upon our return to Longridge, we're usually back around 10 but sometimes it gets a little later.

A Hike on the Fells

Today six Scouts had a great but muddy time walking from Waddecar, we walked through Bleasdale, up the slopes of Fairsnape and Parlick and then back.

Camp Cancelled

Due to lack of interest I have decided to cancel this weekend's camp.

Camp - Last Reminder

Dear Scouts,

Camp is next weekend, the campsite is booked, the activities are planned, I have booked the day off work but so far only one Scout has committed to it.

Unless I hear from more of you by the end of this weekend we will have no choice but to cancel the event.

Please also let me know if you are going on the Service Crew Challenge the following weekend, again I have booked two teams but only have two Scouts that have agreed to go.

Crew Challenge -12th November

As I mentioned last week, I have booked two teams for the Service Crew Challenge next month.

For those who don't know about it, the Crew Challenge is a Scout competition held every year on Beacon Fell. Teams of three move around the fell and take part in activity bases where they earn points. Many of the bases are traditional Scouting skills but there are always some surprises! If you are new to the troop don't be put off - you might not know everything but you'll definitely have a good time!

There are only 100 teams allowed and entries will close soon, if we get more than six Scouts to put their names forward, we can try to book another team, otherwise we will have to try and join with another troop to make up the third team.

The Challenge is held on the morning of 12th November at Beacon Fell. You will need to sort out transport yourselves and there is some basic kit required - click here. If you don't have some of this don't worry just let us know.

I'm not at Scouts tomorrow but please let me know as soon as possibleif you are interested so that I can sort out the teams.

Road Kill Photos

We managed to cook the duck but unfortunately we ran out of time for the rabbit. I will cook it at home though and bring it next week for you to taste. Many thanks yet again to those who provide the "road kill" each year for this popular night.

Please note - we're postponing next week's "Bring a Friend Night" due to other commitments also coming soon we have a camp in November followed by Crew Challenge and Remembrance Sunday.

Swimming

Tomorrow night we will be swimming at Nick's pool. The Scouts will all need their swimming stuff. We will meet at the Scout Hut at 7 and then should be back for 9. Mark

Welcome Back!

After a summer break and this weekend's camp we're ready for another year of Scouting!

Thursday at Waddecar

Hello All,

Just to confirm that we're back on track with the programme this week, we will meet at Waddecar at 7 - be prepared to get wet!

Golf

Many thanks to Steve at Longridge Golf Club for his hospitality last night. We had a good turnout and the Scouts all enjoyed the evening.

Golf next week

It's golf next week so meet at Longridge Golf Club at 7pm. You won't need anything special but bring a coat if it is cold. If you have your own clubs then feel free to use them.

30 Minute Meal

On the third attempt we managed to get the cooking done and it was well worth the wait!

On group cooked Jerk Chicken with rice and beans and sweetcorn whilst the other group made Piri Piri Chicken with a sweet potato and Feta cheese side dish.

There is no excuse at home now!

Alteration to Programme

I have mad a few changes to the programme today, This week we will be cooking and the golf will now be next week. We are also going to push back the planned bike ride to another night.

No Scouts

As we mentioned last week we have decided to cancel tomorrow night's meeting due to lack of numbers.

Eagle eyed Scouts will have noticed that there was a reason for cancelling this week's Scouts - we're having a night hike on Friday! Unfortunately my eyes weren't that sharp!
The hike is going ahead - we will meet at the Scout Hut at 7.00 and we'll be back at around 10.30 - we will ring you to let you know we're back.

April Fools

I hope you all enjoyed tonight's fun, well done to those who managed to build their stilts.

Good luck to Tom now that he is moving on to Explorers.

Don't forget that there is no Scouts next week but we do have St. Georges Day parade in Preston on the 10th April. Meet at the Scout Hut at 9.30 to catch the bus.

Spring Camp

Spring Camp

As promised, here is the form for camp at the end of the month. We're back at GT in the lakes from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, hopefully we will be doing some work towards the forestry badge.

We need the forms back by the 24th but if you are going we could do with knowing as soon as possible so that we can sort out the food etc.

I will have some printed copies of this form with me on Thursday and also some suggested kit lists.

Next week we will be meeting at the driving range at Preston Grasshoppers. We will meet at 7.15 and be finished at nine. It is under cover but bring a coat.

Mechanics Badge

Tonight we finished off the mechanics badge, we learnt about changing a wheel and where to put oil and water.

Wide Game

We're having a wide game this week so make sure you all have clothing suitable for the outdoors.

The new programme is on the website now, we're planning a camp for spring - probably at the end of March (TBC)
